A John Wick Spin-Off, Ballerina Has Ana de Armas in Action- Trailer and Release Date Details

Keanu Reeves would reprise his role as John Wick in another spinoff in a cameo role, apart from the miniseries The Continental, named Ballerina

In a John Wick spin-off feature film, Ballerina has Ana de Armas playing the hot, action-packed assassin trained gal that is completely different from John Wick. Get a glimpse of its trailer and note the release date.

Ballerina plot details

Set during the events between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, the neo-noir action film Ballerina’s story revolves around Eve Macarro, the titular dancer who steps into the world of assassins and begins training for it.

In the Assassin Traditions of Ruska Roma, a highly influential criminal organization in the world of John Wick, she is seen training to avenge her father’s death. Her role is believed to be equivalent to Baba Yaga, suggesting a new powerful assassin in the John Wick world.

Director’s vision for Ballerina

The director, Len Wiseman, revealed that Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro is “not a female John Wick”. He told Deadline,

“This is a story about Eve coming into it from the beginning.”

Despite similarities of taking revenge, the story does create a semblance but the director emphasized that it will be Eve’s personal journey into the deadly world of assassins. The director is hopeful that the fans would love it as the “action is incredible”. Ana is equally mesmerizing as her character is powerful and convincing.

Her character is also brutal, as promised by the director, and Ana de Armas herself proclaimed that audiences have to be prepared for what’s coming next. It’s totally unexpected in terms of action sequences.

It was an experience completely new to her, too, as it required great “discipline, physical and mental” strength, GamesRadar cited. There was a scene when Eve threw 106 people in a flamethrower, just like that.

She candidly said she was sad about throwing the first one, but for the rest of 105, it was just fine. It was “insane”, de Armas added.

A deeper take on the John Wick world would help us delve further into John Wick’s space, as John Wick 5 is now confirmed by Lionsgate. An insight into how this movie’s connection fits well with the fifth installment of John Wick would be a fascinating watch.

Chad Stahelski, the producer, has guaranteed that viewers won’t be able to hold their jaws dropping to the ground once they watch the action in Ballerina. The main aim of the film was to make an eyeball-grabbing action spectacle that fans wouldn’t have expected from the John Wick franchise and Ballerina. “The place goes nuts”.

Whether Ballerina has Ana de Armas endure hard work while filming?

Ana de Armas, the 34-year-old actress, told UPI that she was “in pain” after doing this film. Why? Because there were extreme stunts that she had to work on. It was full of action, which wasn’t the case when she appeared in the James Bond movie No Time to Die.

According to her, Ballerina has been more demanding. They had been in Prague to shoot the film and she confessed that,

“You know, my body, my back. Everything hurts. I’m complaining. I’m sore. I’m bruised.”

On her role, she corroborated Wiseman’s statement that Eve Macarro is not a “female Wick”. Since the story lies between the events of John Wick 3 and 4, it would be interesting to see how Eve’s story makes sense in all of John Wick’s world.

A constant reminder that she is not a female John Wick substantiates the film’s narrative that Ballerina would be entirely different from Wick’s arena. As per Comic Book Resource, Wiseman has aimed to “bring a new level of elegance and intensity to the John Wick universe”.

Ana de Armas on working with Keanu Reeves

She was in awe while saying that Keanu Reeves doesn’t complain. He is always active. He was “rolling and throwing” her in a very difficult scene. She praised Keanu Reeves that he “never” complains and is a serious hard worker.

She calls him a gentleman, a true friend, and deeply respectful. He always seems to be a leader on set, directing things in the right way. She felt “surreal” when she saw the great John Wick on set for the first time.

She couldn’t believe she would ever meet him again as he has been a “huge influence” for her. The 60-year-old actor never gets tired, a belief remains the same from de Armas’ side as they had worked before in the 2015 film Knock Knock along with Lorenza Izzo.

She further admitted that she has had the pleasure of working with Keanu Reeves, especially in the John Wick world, which is “so loved by fans”, Men’s Journal reported.

Keanu Reeves on working in Ballerina

Reeves told Entertainment Weekly that he was excited to put the suit back on for a while for the spin-off Ballerina. He explained that the director asked him where he wanted to “pitch in the story” within the John Wick timeline.

Hence, it was the time when Reeves teased about the film that the Ballerina’s settings occur between John Wick 3 and 4. Besides, one thing is for sure: John Wick will be playing a cameo.

He was thrilled to be with the Knives Out star, Ana de Armas, for one more time. Although his time in the film was short-lived but he enjoyed working with the cast, the scriptwriter and de Armas herself.

Fans’ expectations of Ballerina

Fans are beyond excited to see John Wick one more time, and they all thank Ana de Armas for bringing him back on screen, even for a little while. One of the Reddit threads has all the ecstatic fans grateful for de Armas.

One of them says,

“I will always say thank you to Ana de Armas then ask for another…I mean..oh boy can’t wait!”
