Next James Bond film is Making Progress Under Amazon MGM’s New Producers

After Amazon MGM secured the creative control of the James Bond franchise with new producers, Amy Pascal and David Heyman, the question of the new James Bond is still left hanging in the air.

The next James Bond film is making progress and is fast-tracked under the new management since a massive budget has been allotted to the creative team, and a projected release date (somewhere in 2027) has been decided. The new producers are constantly under the gun for how the next Bond film will be. Who will be the next James Bond still remains unanswered [shrugs].

Is it confirmed that the next James Bond film is making progress?

At CinemaCon, Courtney Valenti and Sue Kroll, Amazon MGM executives, mentioned that the new producers are in London and that is why they were not available there that night.

As per JoBlo, Valenti said,

“We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exhilarating new chapter to audiences around the world alongside Amy and David.”

Valenti further assured that their team is collectively approaching the creative decision for the next James Bond since the plans are to release Bond 26, the working title of the next James Bond film, in 2027.

Hence, the production kick-started right away after the deal was locked worth $US1 billion. The long-time producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli stepped aside, and Amazon has been all praise for their “greatest sense of responsibility” to date. Both of them are partial owners of the franchise though.

Valenti is satisfied that the new producers are experienced as they have been running two massive film franchises, Spider-Man and Harry Potter, which makes them “most accomplished” and “respected film producers”.

At CinemaCon being held in Las Vegas, Valenti was satisfied that the James Bond franchise’s reigns are now in the right hands and that the new producers will help bring a fresh perspective to the emblematic character of all time.

What do Amy Pascal and David Heyman mean to the Bond franchise?

Before signing any new film for the franchise, Bond 26 would define how they are committed to making this movie since now all eyes are on them.

After taking over creative control from the long-standing producers of the franchise, people and critics will be scrutinizing their every next move as they do not want their beloved character to fail.

To put it simply, James Bond is the name of a British cool spy who is a suave and resourceful agent. He looks good, he is a problem-solver, and he has the persona of an English gentleman, but with style and sophistication.

These qualities are ‘too many’ to handle for one single person who will be the next 007 Bond hero. Finding a replacement for Daniel Craig and selecting the next James Bond who will be suitable enough to wear the tuxedo again remains the daunting question that the fans are dying to know.

Amy and Pascal have expressed their gratitude to Amazon and the ex-producers, who have worked with four Bond heroes previously and dedicated almost 60 years of their lives to the franchise, who have now trusted them to bring the symbolic character back to life but with new vigor.

When we look at their past work,  we know that they have been working hard to keep the franchises alive with every new film, making them bigger and better. We can predict the same with the Bond franchise, still yearning to know who would be the lucky star to play the next James Bond this time [touch wood].

Fans’ reaction to the Bond franchise changes

After getting a backlash from the news of the creative control changes and Amazon taking the reigns, there was disappointment all over the internet. According to Digital Spy, there were certain shocking comments, including

  • “RIP James Bond.”
  • “And that’s the end of James Bond. Can’t wait for 7000 spin-offs and a load of garbage films pumped out every year like the Marvel stuff.”
  • “We expect you to die, Mr Bond.”

Fans were seriously concerned about the fate of this classic franchise as they feared it might face a similar destiny as that of The Rings of Power. Forced spin-offs and expansion might ruin the true gist of the franchise and even weaken the aesthetic presence of James Bond himself.

Rumors regarding ‘drastic’ changes to the Bond franchise

Based on the reports from The Sun, Bond 26 will cast the “youngest ever James Bond” who should be in his 20s years of age, since the story settings will be in the 50’s and 60’s. The franchise with the new producers is planning to go back to the origins. They are going to have retro cars and all old-school stuff.

After having watched Daniel Craig die in No Time to Die, the news might be true as they want to show who is James Bond, where did he come from and how his origin story will inculcate the true essence of the entire franchise, which seems to be a good idea.

But but but! The question of “who will be the next James Bond” again revolves in our minds, with now a possibility of Theo James, Chris Hemsworth, and Henry Cavill ruled out from the list of James Bond candidates.

Who could be the next James Bond in the new 007 film? Road ahead for Bond 26

Even the more apt candidates, who are in their 30s, now seem to be sidelined from being the next James Bond in the 007 film, currently in the production phase in London. Such as James Norton (39 years), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (34), and Josh O’Connor (34).

The young Bond contenders could include Tom Holland, Connor Swindells, Leo Woodall, Fiennes Tiffin, Kit Connor, and Harris Dickinson.

Pierce Brosnan recently suggested Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be a good prospect for the next James Bond, via Los Angeles Times.

No matter who is chosen as the next James Bond, we wish the best to the franchise so that they continue to mesmerize the fans as they have been doing for the past several decades. We are hungry for more Bond entertainment anyway!
