John Wick Animated Prequel Has Keanu Reeves Reloaded For A Voiceover
The John Wick franchise has been on a filming streak, which has already earned more than $1 billion worldwide.

The John Wick franchise has been on a filming streak, which has already earned more than $1 billion worldwide. Still, the fans are unstoppable- they want more- and so does John Wick.
A John Wick animated prequel is in the works now. Yes, you heard it right. The John Wick franchise has three new additions: Ballerina, Caine series, and now the animated prequel.
Plot details of John Wick animated prequel
According to IGN, the official blurb of the film states the feature will be based on John Wick’s “impossible task”, which has been mentioned in other John Wick films previously. The impossible task was to kill all his rivals in one night, which gave him the right from the High Table to leave the world of assassins and spend time with his love, Helen.
The untitled animated prequel is named so for a reason. The prequel will tell the tale of John Wick’s life before John Wick 1. It will be “highly stylized with defined action”, meeting the fans’ expectations just right. However, it will be aimed at more mature audiences.

Lionsgate chairperson comes clean about John Wick animated film
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group has already announced at CinemaCon that John Wick 5 is confirmed. No further plot details are disclosed, but the fans are already excited to know that John Wick is not dead after all. He is compared to Baby Yaga.
Another announcement for a John Wick animated prequel was made at CinemaCon, which has stirred the world of animation. It would explore the world of Keanu Reeve’s character as a professional killer.
Adam Fogelson, chairperson of Lionsgate, said,
“In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless. And there is no John Wick story fans are clamoring for more than the Impossible Task.” [Source]
The film will be directed by Shannon Tindle, known for Ultraman Rising (2024 animated feature), and written by Vanessa Taylor, known for her Oscar-winning movie The Shape of Water (2017).
John Wick’s director is fascinated with anime
John Wick director Chad Stahelski confessed that he has always been an anime fan and that it is more thrilling for him to work on the John Wick animated version. He feels this would be a “perfect progression for the John Wick world”.
The unimaginable force with which the John Wick franchise has been loading new projects is a great way to expand the verse, he believes. This is a massively busy time for the John Wick franchise as it has announced new upcoming projects.
He confirmed that his team from 87 Entertainment is “knee-deep in development on a feature anime” based on the titular character. This film has an edge over the rest of the John Wick films.
The director stated that they can be “more crazy and nutty in the anime”, which is an advantage for this film, as per IGN. It will give the fans the benefit of delving deeper into Wick’s world in terms of storytelling and world-building. So, all of his team’s energies are directed in this direction at the moment.
He clarified that he does not want to make typical prequels and sequels that we have seen in other franchises. He just “wants to have fun” with a high-octane animated film, just like the rest of the flicks. That is what gives the team an open field to play on. They are thinking about the perfect story and use a different medium for that purpose.
The anime gives an upper hand to the movie to go in any direction. You want the character to step on a drone and fly anywhere in the world? Piece of cake! The action sequences look more detailed and have a different razzmatazz that grabs the viewer’s attention within a jiffy.
The anime gives a classic view of things that the audience is not able to visualize in a normal action film. Anime gives a whole new horizon of open possibilities, and this is what Stahelski is mad about this time.
Keanu Reeves is to voice the character
No John Wick film is complete without Keanu Reeves- the man himself! Keanu Reeves will voice the character and is ready to step back into the world that we want more of.
It will be fun to watch anime with the style and additional sleek graphics of the John Wick world with the voice of Keanu Reeves himself, which would add weightage to the character.

Some of them mentioned their concern for keeping “The Impossible Task” clandestine forever because, according to them, some things need to be left to the audience’s wild imagination, as a discussion on Reddit thread revealed.
