Raising a Martini to a sequel that came after a lot of struggle from the director, but did not impress much. Where the first film was more about friends and motherhood, the second one is focused more on revenge and the mafia.
Here is our version of Another Simple Favor review that will help you decide whether Feig’s take on bending his own rules about sequels has worked or not. And whether you should switch on your television to start streaming it right away or skip it this time.
Another Simple Favor (2025)
Plot details of Another Simple Favor
In our previous article, we gave an overview of the plot of the movie Another Simple Favor. Still, for revisiting purposes, the film continues five years after where it left off in A Simple Favor. Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick) has written a book about her experiences with her frenemy, Emily (played by Blake Lively).
Stephanie is trying hard to launch her book, but there is not much luck. And then, Emily reappears from jail, demanding and threatening Stephanie to become her maid of honor in her upcoming lavish wedding at Capri.
Her groom is filthy rich and accompanies them to the wedding destination. It seems to be a perfect revenge plot as Stephanie remains doubtful, desperate to know what Emily is up to.

Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively’s performances in Another Simple Favor
Anna Kendrick’s role as mommy-blogger and detective is a little less evident this time as compared to the previous one. She becomes the suspect and is now on a mission to know what Emily has in mind.
Stephanie’s detective streak is on, and several plot details are easily predicted, which was not the case in A Simple Favor. While Emily is outrageously brilliant once again, her aura matches well with the world’s most over-the-top wedding in Capri, as she is seen in stunning outfits, carrying herself beautifully.
Both of them have their dark pasts, but the sweetness of their friendship still lingers with a quick and palpable darkness of vengeance from Emily. For example, the scene on the pool where Emily and Stephanie share a drink, saying, “To old friends, new beginning”, and Stephanie replies, “And not getting poisoned”. Emily is only seen smiling. Now that is super dark!

What do critics add to Another Simple Favor review?
The critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes gave a positive review of the film. It said,
“Sailing through on the strength of its predecessor, Another Simple Favor is the perfect cocktail of mystery, intrigue, and sharp casting with a dash of well-timed comedy.” [Source]
Though Another Simple Favor seems fresher, ingenious character work is missing, as it was not so in the first part. The critics are of the view that this part is more “predictable,” which was not so in A Simple Favor that kept the intrigue level high for the first flick.
Fans reaction
Fans did like the comeback of the two (not so) best friends, as the amalgamation of dark comedy and style was commendable. They call it a “clever, twisted, fashion-forward mystery,” but not as astonishing as the first part.
Some of them loved it wholeheartedly and are waiting for its part three. However, others are too condescending of the film as they specially created an account on Rotten Tomatoes just to vent out their rage, stating they unfortunately “wasted 2 hours” of their lives. They could hardly finish it.
Is it worth watching?
The previous film was equally funny with mysterious twists and turns, however, A Simple Favour has the most unexpected twists coming your way that were not manifested in the sequel.
The director, Paul Feig, had always thought that sequels might be boring for the audience as the same storyline that lingers on in the next part. According to him, the sequels are “hard” to make unless the story is strong enough to gain better ratings than its predecessor.
In this case, we should compare the ratings of A Simple Favor and its sequel for a clearer view.
| Rotten Tomatoes | IMDb | |
| A Simple Favor | 84 percent Tomatometer, 73 percent Popcornmeter | 6.8 |
| Another Simple Favor | 67 percent Tomatometer, 45 percent Popcornmeter | 5.4 |
Hence, the results are transparent. Another Simple Favor did not outdo its first installment, but if you ask our advice, you can still watch it to get a fresh breeze of Capri, a few picturesque views, and the unbeatable acting grace of Kendrick and Lively. You surely want to know whether Stephanie escapes the blame, and what plan Emily has crafted after all, right?
Our rating: 3/10
