Antman’s reaction to Avengers Doomsday cast reveal

Paul Rudd’s chair was quite small in Marvel’s livestream for the cast reveal. He knew it might be a comparison to his role as Ant-Man. Rudd told in an interview that he did see the announcement and when the host talked about the size of the chair, he said,

“I thought, ‘oh that’s clever, yes I’m Ant-Man.’ But there’s still the part of me that’s like, it’s a little emasculating to have a little tiny chair.” [Source]

Russo Brothers on casting for Avengers: Doomsday

The Hollywood Reporter cited that the Russo Brothers always faced the challenge of keeping the characters “straight” and they had to use baseball cards with every Marvel character with their roles mentioned on it.

Joe Russo said,

“Now they have magnets on them so we can put ‘em on a board and look at ‘em. It’s the only way to keep track of the amount of characters that we’re working with.”

Anthony Russo corroborated the fact they had to keep track of which character is in which movie so that the “long creative process of exploring” which story they wanted gets on track smoothly.

Initially, Variety confirmed that the Russo Brothers had said ‘no’ to directing Avengers: Doomsday as they did not have any idea in mind. But when Robert Downey Jr. stepped in to lock a deal with the producer, Kevin Feige, and a story idea was pitched by the writer, Stephen McFeely, the Russo Brothers started to feel confident.

There are some concerns about whether Russo Brothers will be able to pull off something as big as Avengers: Doomsday since now, after a colossal cast reveal, its reputation is at stake. Russo Brothers’ recent record regarding The Electric State hasn’t been convincing enough. The film gained hardly a 16 percent RT critics score, which is quite alarming!

As per Deadline, it was the biggest livestream, even bigger than any red carpet, giving 275 million digital views and 3.1 million social mentions. YouTube, Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) were full of comments and thoughts, which included mixed reactions.

Excitement and memes were all over the internet, and fans did not hold back from expressing their thoughts on each and every character. This shows how closely they follow their favorite character and how intensely they want Avengers: Doomsday to perform at its best.

This is a great way to create hype already, which again includes, probably, a second installment of the cast reveal. This still has contained and sustained the fervor, which Marvel will have to live up to when the film gets released.

Four-time Marvel directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who recently directed The Electric State, will be back to direct Doomsday along with the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars (releasing in theaters May 7, 2027), as per Marvel

Our thoughts on Avengers: Doomsday cast

How many minutes of screen time will each character get in mammoth-size casting done by Marvel? What is the point of adding Thunderbolts* cast members in Avengers: Doomsday since their film’s release is just around the corner?

The characters include almost all those who have been associated with Marvel or any of its related franchises, which might seem chaos at one end but could be a surprising masterpiece at the other. Geek Tyrant also confirmed that Marvel announced key roles played by The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast in Avengers: Doomsday.

(This article has been updated with the above-cited information from Geek Tyrant.)

Since Marvel has been exploring the multiverse saga, the cross-over of certain characters and their verses would be an interesting watch, but again, there remains a risk. As other multiverse films have done in the past, numerous cross-overs failed at building an emotional connection with the viewers, and the formula did not work well in the end.

Further, it would be equally fascinating to see whether all characters are connected with each other since some of them have been seen together onscreen before, while others are entirely strangers. It is still worth waiting whether they have something in common or completely different stories in store for the audience.

After a gigantic cast reveal, Avengers: Doomsday has to live up to the hype, especially since it created with a single character reveal in the live stream. After every 12 minutes or so, the next chair was revealed with music, and the camera would show the next name. The end with Robert Downey Jr. in a suit with a “shhh” pose was a mic drop scene.

These questions might remain unanswered till the final casting details or the film gets released.

When is Avengers: Doomsday expected to release?

Avengers: Doomsday will hit theatres on May 1, 2026.

Genre: Action, sci-fi, superhero, adventure

Cast: Final characters mentioned above

Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo

Writers: Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Stephen McFeely

Producer: Kevin Feige

Movie runtime: –
