The Russo Brothers may be hinting at elements reminiscent of Stranger Things, but concrete plot details for Avengers: Doomsday remain under wraps. While Marvel has not revealed the full storyline, fans are already speculating about the massive superhero crossover and the role of Doctor Doom in the multiverse.
Avengers Doomsday latest teasers have introduced more superheroes in the Marvel Universe, where they all will be seen reuniting to fight Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
Avengers: Doomsday teaser 3: X-Men
The third teaser was played in the third week of the theatrical screening of Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), according to the four-week Avengers: Doomsday teaser event plan. The plan involved the release of every new teaser each week for the cinemagoers to enjoy on big screens.
Marvel’s third teaser for a massive superhero crossover was released last Tuesday. It showed Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, and James Marsden’s Cyclops.
The clip starts with wreckage within the abandoned halls of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, which was also the home base of X-men. Xavier and Magneto are seen sharing a tender moment at the same table.
The clip instantly cuts to an emotional Cyclops unleashing his massive optic blast, where the giant legs of Sentinels are likely introduced. Sentinels are formidable giant robot villains in Marvel’s comics that function as mutant-killing machines. They hold an important connection in X-Men lore and now get a live-action role in Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday teaser 4: Black Panther and Fantastic Four
Shruti (played by Letitia Wright) took the place of Black Panther in 2022’s Wakanda Forever after the death of her brother, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). She appears on screen saying,
“I’ve lost everyone that matters to me. A king has his duties to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine.” [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]
M’Baku (Winston Duke) is presented as the King of Wakanda, as he was the one Shruti opted not to challenge for the throne in Wakanda Forever. Namor (Tenoch Huerta), who first entered the MCU in Wakanda Forever, also makes an appearance.
Then, the trailer moves on to show Ben Grimm, aka The Thing from Fantastic Four, who comically chats with Duke. The rest of the members of Fantastic Four are absent from the teaser, but the teaser ends by stating that they will be in Avengers: Doomsday.
This interaction traces back to classic comics as well. The self-deprecatory joke of The Thing is a sign that Russo Brothers will be fusing their trademark wit with high-stakes action, as they have previously established in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and The Electric State (2025).
Do Avengers Doomsday latest teasers show the biggest MCU team-up ever?
Marvel Studios revealed an extensive list of cast members for Avengers: Doomsday last year in March, where Doctor Doom takes the center stage. The details of Doctor Doom’s role have not been disclosed officially yet, but it is expected that he will prove to be a major threat to all the MCU superheroes, who have no choice but to reunite against the supposed multiverse’s biggest threat.
The question still looms: Is Doctor Doom deemed to be a serious threat because of his connection with children? The end-credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) showed Doctor Doom playing with Mr Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and the Invisible Woman’s (Vanessa Kirby) son, Franklin.
Then the first teaser of Avengers: Doomsday showed Chris Evans returning as Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, holding his baby, and possibly thinking of saving the world and his child from Doom’s wrath. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) kneels in a forest in the second teaser, praying to get back home and play with his adopted daughter.
Although the third and fourth teasers do not show any link to collecting or harming babies, Doctor Doom has a history with kids. The 1978 comic publication of Fantastic Four # 199 mentioned Doctor Doom created a clone, in reality, meant to be a spare body where Doom would transplant his own brain. Kristoff was another child whom he used to wipe his happy childhood memories and replace his own brainwaves after Doom’s death, making him a living back-up.
Moreover, X-Men are known to have time-travel powers as they are dimensional shenanigans, which makes it hard for the viewers sometimes to keep track of the time. However, if Doctor Doom is traveling between 1960s on Earth-828 of Fantastic Four: First Steps and 1940s London on Earth-616 in Doomsday, the time-traveling and snatching the babies might be a true prediction.
Further, Avengers: Doomsday is reported to set a new record as the MCU’s longest movie ever. The previous MCU movies usually have a running time of two hours and a few minutes. Doomsday is alleged to be 3 hours 45 minutes; still, a confirmation from Marvel and Walt Disney is awaited.
It means that a huge cast ensemble will need a considerable screen time to unfold the story, how the time travelling works, and what the origins and motives of Doctor Doom are, for which the entire gigantic cast will be coming together for a paramount battle for the multiverses.
For now, all eyes remain on the final trailer of Avengers: Doomsday, which might uncover the full scope of Doctor Doom, who has not been in any of the Doomsday teasers yet. The countdown has begun, but answers are still on the horizon.
When is Avengers: Doomsday (2026) releasing?
Walt Disney and Marvel Studios have set Avengers: Doomsday to be released in theatres on December 18, 2026.
