Two doctors becoming the villain of the Marvel-verse seems to be a crazy idea, but with an insane and majestic cast reveal of Avengers: Doomsday (2026), anything is possible. And here we are making assumptions about what will be the fate of Doctor Strange in the upcoming MCU film, which is also ‘highly anticipated’.
What if Doctor Strange turns villain in Avengers Doomsday? Despite being the baddest villain in Marvel comics, will Doctor Doom survive?
The rise of Doctor Strange as a villain
Several speculations are on the rise that Doctor Strange will become evil in Avengers: Doomsday. We have even seen a glimpse of such madness in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
The last time Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was trying to create a balance among the multiverses, he did not succeed, as Wanda Maximoff’s desperate attempt to reunite with her deceased children tilted things badly.
Doctor Strange tried hard to fix things afterwards as Wanda began opening portals throughout the multiverses, descending deeper into the dark side.
It could be assumed that the hero-turned-so-called-villain was attempting to stop things from getting worse, in the process of which he went on to do whatever it took to set things right, possibly turning him into an apparent villain.
Similarly, during the events of Avengers: Doomsday, we might expect a clash of morals and how Doctor Strange wants to keep things on track when it comes to saving the multiverse.
There is even a prediction that Doctor Strange will be on Doctor Doom’s side in Doomsday, which is a crazy idea, yet not impossible.
Doctor Doom: The reigning big bad
As stated earlier, Doctor Strange was seen walking a razor-thin line between heroism and haughtiness. There are clues here and there in the previous Marvel versions that Doctor Strange is a threat, as seeds of villainy are observed.
In Multiverse of Madness, we saw multiple versions of Strange that were dangerously flawed. He willingly used dreamwalking and dark magic, being thoroughly aware of the risks and consequences. His corrupt behavior left the fans questioning how much of his soul is pure.
He knows some dangerous spells and has access to books that normal beings should not dare to speak of. We know he uses these powers for the greater good of the world, but the blurring of the line between saving the world and controlling it is quite evident.
Could Doom be overshadowed? Or will he ally with Doctor Strange?
Doctor Doom will remain the ultimate MCU villain, especially after an alliance with baby Franklin. When he was seen interacting with baby Franklin in the post-credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), it was clearly confirmed with an official statement at the end that the Fantastic Four are included in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
Note: Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in Earth-828 and will soon be joining the Avengers on Earth-616 for their war against Doctor Doom.
Since Doctor Doom is the ultimate baddie of Marvel Comics, possessing the ability to manipulate and create mystical force fields makes him the supreme villain of the Marvel-verse.
Now, if Doctor Doom wants baby Franklin by his side, they can break the barriers that no one could have imagined. It is no wonder that Galactus, the devourer of Worlds, wanted baby Franklin instead of the whole planet Earth.
In Marvel comics, Franklin Richards is a more powerful entity than Galactus and has more energy than any ancient cosmic entity. He has the power to alter energy, matter, and even space. Therefore, it implies that he somehow resurrected his dying mother, Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, in First Steps.
According to Polygon, Franklin is one of the most powerful beings in Marvel comics. The explanation says,
“His powers mostly manifest as telepathy, precognition, and energy blasts. His ability to resurrect his mom is probably because she died from draining all of the power she gained from exposure to cosmic rays, which are effectively a weaker form of the Power Cosmic. Franklin was probably able to give her a recharge.” [Source]
If Doctor Doom’s power consists of creating mystical forces, and sometimes traveling through time, granting him the power of teleporting, then teaming up with baby Franklin will be a destructive move for Avengers: Doomsday.
If baby Franklin joins forces with Doctor Doom, he might also be working as a villain. Although he is just a four-year-old now, but inclusion of the Fantastic Four in Avengers: Doomsday might pave the way for baby Franklin’s wrath if not channelized in the right direction.
Moreover, Doctor Strange’s ability to use his spells to bind opponents, creating complex shields and barriers, telepathy, astral projection, and mesmerism will be an energy blast in Avengers: Doomsday.
There is no official confirmation, but what if Doctor Strange sees Doctor Doom relying too much on Franklin Richards and not wanting Doctor Strange’s services anymore to impede incursions, it might turn Doctor Strange into a villain, which will be an interesting twist in the Doomsday narrative.

What do fans think if Doctor Strange turns villain in Avengers Doomsday?
As mentioned above, Doctor Strange might team up with Doctor Doom to save the world. One of the fan theories on a Reddit thread suggests that, and it totally makes sense. The thread discussed that Doctor Doom wants to fix the incursions.
Note: An incursion in Marvel comics is a catastrophic event that occurs when boundaries of two separate universes become unsteady and begin to diminish, leading to a possible disastrous collision.
Doctor Strange also thinks the same as Doom and realizes that incursions should be prevented. Hence, another angle of thinking Doctor Strange might become the villain is when he works for Doctor Doom to stop incursions, and this is when people might think he has turned into a villain.
But there is a twist: according to fan theories in the same thread, if Doctor Strange comes to know that Doom is plotting something different, Strange might work against Doom rather than WITH him. This possibility might occur in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
Wrapping up…
The idea of Doctor Strange turning villain in Avengers: Doomsday is already explosive enough for a Marvel storyline and adds a complex layer to its narrative. There are high stakes involved with Doctor Doom’s immense power, intellect, and influence as the ultimate villain.
Particularly with baby Franklin by Doctor Doom’s side, the rise of a corrupted Doctor Strange is expected to challenge his supremacy. Fans will be excited to witness a rare phenomenon for some calamitous results.
