I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel Trailer Is Here To Reboot The Franchise
Giving horror franchises a reboot with a new sequel after several years seems to be the new Hollywood trend.

Giving horror franchises a reboot with a new sequel after several years seems to be the new Hollywood trend. Final Destination: Bloodlines is coming back after 14 years when everyone thought Final Destination 4 was the franchise’s conclusion.
It was quite unexpected when the fifth Final Destination sequel came up, supposing it to be the closure back then. However, directors do come up with a gap that they later develop into a full-fledged storyline, interesting enough to be regarded as a reset action for the franchise.
I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel trailer is here to follow the same footsteps, nearly three decades later. After 27 years, Sony Columbia Pictures released the trailer online after premiering it first at CinemaCon.

The Rise, Fall, and Return of I Know What You Did Last Summer
I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer was a disaster, a straight-to-video standalone sequel that was released in 2006. The worst critical reception it received and proved a massive theatrical fiasco, it was unlikely that the franchise would ever be chosen for a relaunch to continue with the legacy.Â
The Final Destination franchise has more sequels than I Know What You Did Last Summer, but the quality of each sequel started to fall. The same happened with I Know What You Did Last Summer, despite only two mainstream films that tried hard to please the critics and the audience, but failed somehow.Â
All the films of the franchise are mentioned here in tabular form.
Films | Release year | RT score | IMDb |
I Know What You Did Last Summer | 1997 | 48 percent and 41 percent | 5.8 |
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer | 1998 | 7 percent and 29 percent | 4.8 |
I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (standalone) | 2006 | 0 percent and 20 percent | 3.3 |
I Know What You Did Last Summer, 2025 | 2025 | – | – |
Despite such scores, I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 (2025) still has our attention. It could be a nostalgic factor as we had watched these movies 27 years back, but the general audience still enjoyed it and their enthusiasm eventually led to a greenlit sequel, and fortunately, the director said yes to it. Â
Did I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel trailer grab our attention?
Certainly, yes! As we said, the sequel has a nostalgia that we can’t ignore. Even if it didn’t receive the praise as was expected, the sequel trailer did introduce a storyline that would touch the previous narrative as well as bring a fresh perspective to the story.
How? IKWYDLS franchise is based on Lois Duncan’s novel of the same name (1973). She despised the film adaptation as she did not want it to be a slasher film, as per Collider. The novel was a mere thriller.Â
However, when the first movie came out with its trailer, it was a shortened form of the story. Almost the entire story was revealed in its trailer, which did not keep the intrigue factor high. Although the story looked interesting and the viewers certainly watched the entire film when it premiered, the trailer-making technique has changed drastically.
The trailer of I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 has given us a clip of the homicidal killing, giving a hook at the beginning, not showing how it all started. The intrigue factor is high here.
Besides, the appearance of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze is already creating the much-wanted buzz for a franchise’s reboot after 27 years. Fans are excited, as the comments section in the YouTube trailer section showed,

Director’s vision of the film
The director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, mentioned that Brandy is interested in reprising her role in the next installment, as per People. But viewers will have to see for themselves whether she is still in the film or not, as she was also one of the survivors in the first. She played the role of Julie’s college friend, Karla Wilson, in the 1997 film.
When asked about Brandy’s return, she said, “You’ll have to go see the movie” and did not disclose much details about the film.Â
One thing she did not keep under wraps was her big fight with the co-writer, Lansky. She explained,Â
“One of our first big fights together about this project was that we were both talking about just how much weight it should hold in Julie’s story.” [Source]
Also, the director had to beg Sarah Michelle Gellar to come back for the recommence of the franchise despite her character being finished in the last part.
