Earlier reports suggest a live-action K-Pop Demon Hunters may interest the director after watching DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon live-action version.
And after its unmatched success, Sony and Netflix have now entered talks about making a K-Pop Demon Hunters sequel. Although the second installment has not been greenlit yet but the potential exists.
The fandom demanded a sequel. Fans want answers to questions left unresolved in K-Pop Demon Hunters, Netflix’s most-watched animated film.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Red Notice (2021) has held this spot for three years, which was broken by K-Pop Demon Hunters with 236 million views since the animated musical’s June 20, 2025, premiere.
Potential K-Pop Demon Hunters 2 story
The first questions that instantly popped into the audience’s minds that NEED to be added in the sequel are as follows:
- Expansion on Rumi’s story, how her parents met, since one of them was human and the other a demon
- Cracking open Zoey and Mira’s backstories
- Celeine’s background
- Derpy the tiger’s mythology
- Explanation of Sussie the six-eyed bird
- Will Jinu return?
The story could dig deeper into Zoey’s struggles as she felt torn between her Korean heritage and growing up in the US. This will be an enthralling angle as Zoey’s personality might have bits of insecurity, hidden stress to show her true self, be afraid of disappointing others, and have people-pleasing tendencies.
Mira’s background seems to be rebellious, as the line in the song Golden mentions, “Called a problem child ‘cause I got too wild,” says it all. Her family might have been strict or could have disowned her, which might have led her to build emotional walls around herself. This angle will shed light on her internal struggles with trust.

Our thoughts on live-action vs K-Pop Demon Hunters sequel
Fan theories have been heavily influencing how directors approach sequels for today’s most popular franchises. K-Pop Demon Hunters has successfully stirred the audience that their fan theories might dictate the way directors could outline the plot of its sequel.
Fan fiction theories about Huntrix might become a big part of this intellectual property (IP) beyond Netflix. The director Maggie Kang and the co-director Chris Appelhans, known for Wish Dragon (2021), might use these fan theories.
They are happy to keep up with their fans’ appreciation from all over the world and might use their theories in their next story. It depends on whether the directors remain the same or not for the next part, as Sony and Netflix have not revealed any official details.
One thing that seems most likely is that the iconic trio of Rumi, Zoey, and Mira will be present in K-Pop Demon Hunters 2. The story will emerge from there, and how their destinies intertwine or take them further.
Do fans want it darker or colorful? Fans hope to see the trio’s stage costumes evolve — think cyberpunk hanbok meets streetwear. The potential for fashion-forward design is sky-high.
With a potential live-action version on the table, fans are already fantasy-casting stars like Aespa’s Karina as Zoey and TXT’s Yeonjun as the new demon antagonist.
Delving deep into the connection between music and killing demons relevant to the Korean mythology, it will be enchanting if K-Pop Demon Hunters tapped into Korean folklore with characters like Sussie, the six-eyed bird. It is loosely inspired by creatures in Samguk Yusa. For many global viewers, it was a first introduction to Korea’s deep mythological roots.
What about the songs?
Half of the credit for K-Pop Demon Hunters’ success goes to its head-banging songs. Golden, Takedown, How It’s Done, and Soda Pop are some of the chart-topping ones.
Fans were quick to create mashups and remixes of the existing hits. Some of the medleys on YouTube are so catchy that filmmakers might even consider including them in post-credit scenes or trailers for the sequel.
It would be equally exciting to hear new songs in the sequel. It will be doubly fascinating to have a line or two of their previous famous songs in their new ones. It would be a great hook within the song that will up its level of unforgettableness.
