A few people know that Keanu Reeves has written a comic book himself. And the cherry on top is Netflix developing its film adaptation in which The Matrix star will be playing the central role.
The comic book, named BRZRKR, is getting the Hollywood treatment, and the Keanu Reeves comic book film adaptation is finally coming to life.
What does BRZRKR actually mean?
BRZRKR does not stand for anything. It is a phonetic spelling of “berserker”. A berserker is an ancient Norse warrior who fought with uncontrolled brutality and ferocity.
Ringing any John Wick bells? Yes, the comic book has a character similar to John Wick, and therefore, many entertainment reports have been calling this film adaptation a ‘John Wick replacement’.
Plot details of Reeves’ comic book BRZRKR
Keanu Reeves co-wrote the comic book BRZRKR along with Matt Kindt, which is available at BOOM! Studios. The comic was first launched in 2021 and is now heading towards a film adaptation.
The comic book follows B, an immortal man whose real name is Unute, meaning “tool” or “weapon.” As the title suggests, B himself is depicted as a weapon of mass destruction who has spent countless millennia fighting.
He desperately wants to end his 80,000-year existence and allows the US government to take him as an experiment. Meanwhile, he will be working as a one-man killing squad while they try to figure out a way to make him a mortal being.
Reeves further expands on this in an interview with IGN,
“I felt that by setting up that he was born 80,000 years ago, there is this perspective there. There’s a lot of places that we can go from there, and opportunities that we can go to. Which is fantastic.” [Source]
The comic’s first four issues delve into B’s origin and past, while subsequent issues follow the US government’s efforts to turn him mortal. Reeves finds this narrative structure compelling, likening it to a menu with many possibilities.
The clarification he gave for saying so is that you can get a big menu with diversity, even if it means the menu having a “box of chocolates” or getting a cheesecake.

The themes of the comic book story include love, death, religion, and friendship. Since BRZRKR is a berserker who will experience all sorts of adventures, but in different time periods, there will be several possibilities to witness these themes along the way. Of course, with violence and blood, the Viking B’s story will be closer to John Wick impressions.
Does the BRZRKR film feature Keanu Reeves himself?
Indeed, a John Wick animated film is also in the works, and Reeves seems fascinated by animation — a medium where imagination can truly run wild.
However, the BRZRKR adaptation would be a live-action film starring Reeves himself.
Reeves was initially considering helming the project himself, but now the job is delegated to Fast and Furious director Justin Lin. The script is written by The Batman Part 2’s Mattson Tomlin.
Lin called it one of his favorite projects. He is happy to bring the Reeves’ crafted story to life and finds it one of the most fascinating collaborations after leaving the million-dollar franchise like Fast and Furious.
What can we expect from Keanu Reeves comic book film adaptation?
The comic has Ron Garney’s artwork with graphics that involve blood and violence. There will be eyeballs and bones flying around in the comic story, and Reeves believes that it is truly “impressionistic”.
This is exactly why the film adaptation will be R-rated. Fans are eager to know how Ron’s gritty artwork will translate to the big screen.

The intense stylized violence fused with themes of immortality and vengeance, the screen experience is speculated to be emotionally powerful and visually striking.
The unapologetic action and philosophical intensity with Reeves in action is all that we are craving for right now. The bold visuals have given the filmmakers full freedom to capture the rawness of existential struggle, rightfully giving the explosive energy to Reeves’ role as B and the comic’s deep, dark story.
If John Wick redefined the assassin genre, we envisage BRZRKR might just do the same for immortal warriors.
Can BRZRKR become the next big action franchise for Keanu Reeves?
