Plastic dolls have been here for decades to browbeat us, but Megan has been a viral sensation after she came dancing and killing in the first installment in 2023.
Here is our version of Megan 2.0 review that will help you decide whether you should rush to cinemas to watch her slay one more time or skip this hardware/software update for now.
M3gan 2.0 (2025)
Plot details of M3gan 2.0
Gemma (played by Allison Williams) has decided to give an upgrade to Megan, her own creation, an AI doll whose only mission was to protect Cady (played by Violet McGraw), Gemma’s niece. She went bonkers two years ago but is back with a better and ‘badder’ version of herself for another purpose.
A high-profile military-grade weapon, a ruthless AI doll named Amelia (played by Ivanna Sakhno), is set to kill and infiltrate. She is already self-aware and is not interested in taking orders from humans. She wants to get all the power to herself, and someone needs to stop her.
So, here we have Megan, faster, stronger, and taller, to do the job. Have a look at the trailer to see how these two lethal AI dolls collide.
Actors’ performances in M3gan 2.0
Let’s talk about Ivanna Sakhno as Amelia first, who is impeccable in Megan’s sequel. Her movements and facial expressions looked flawless, like those of a robot, which were acquired with the help of a movement coach, according to Syfy. She was the heart of the film, as her robotic movements created a character that was essentially artificial but very much integrated into human society.
Allison Williams as Gemma was fine. She was a bit agitated by Megan as she had been a terrorizing creature previously, and Gemma wasn’t sure whether Megan would be a good girl this time. Also, she knew she had no choice but to revive Megan to fight the rebellious Amelia; yet, Gemma was always prepared with precautions.
Cady, portrayed by Violet McGraw, was okay-ish. She only had the role of helping Megan, which she totally did. She reprised her role as Cady and is shown to be technologically intelligent.
Last but not least, Megan, voiced by Jenna Davis, was marvellous in the film. The best scene about Megan was when she starts singing in front of Gemma, and Gemma is irritated. Before that, Megan explains that she is done apologizing and now feels that she was immature when she wreaked havoc in the last part.
Now, Megan is more emotionally mature and knows what is right. It is proof that artificial intelligence can improve over time, and it sure does actually.
What do critics add to Megan 2.0 review?
We saw a mediocre critics’ consensus review on Rotten Tomatoes, and it says,
“M3gan 2.0 swaps the original’s horror software for a more action-leaning programming that doesn’t prove to be an upgrade, although the quippy A.I. remains an amusing mascot of slay.” [Source]
The critics are of the view that M3gan 2.0 is just about artificial intelligence with a comical touch. The essence of the actual Megan film is missing– the horror. In Megan she appeared more terrifying; her looks and actions demonstrated pure evil.
However, this time, it was just a “mess”. The runtime was too long for such a story, and it only looks like a parody of the movie Terminator since we definitely know it has Ivanna Sakhno, who took inspiration from Terminator’s antagonist for her character.
Fans reaction
Fans loved the film as they remained entertained for the whole two hours. They loved the twists and turns, and of course, the crazy and funny Megan this time. They feel that if Megan remained as vicious as she was in the last film, it would have been monotonous.
A changed version of Megan was refreshing, which looked more human and ‘humane’. She was “cute, silly, and interesting”, and nothing like her “Chucky” version.
Is it worth watching?
PROBABLY, yes! Why? Because if you want to spend two hours of your life just for the sake of killing boredom since you have nothing more constructive to do, then yes. The visuals were amazing, and Ivanna Sakhno as Amelia was impressive.
There is nothing much more to the film that kept us hooked. It was fun and charming, but the storyline wasn’t captivating at all. Saying it from a watching experience, the story doesn’t make any sense. The only thing that kept us awake throughout the film was the action.

Released on the same date, the F1 movie is far better than Megan 2.0. The intrigue level in the F1 movie is cranked to eleven along with the mighty cast, which could be a reason that F1 performed well at the box office, earning $380 million worldwide- more than Sinners and Thunderbolts*, as per KoiMoi.
On the other hand, Megan hardly earned $27 million globally. It is clearly evident that even the biggest production companies are facing challenges in modern cinema.
What we liked
- Ivanna Sakhno as Amelia
- Jenna Davis’s voice as Megan
- Action entertainment
- Visual effects
What could be better
- Weak storyline
- Loss of horror element
- Cady’s underwhelming role, after all, she’s grown up now [duh!]
Our rating: 6
