Revelations from Train to Busan Director– Final Trailer and Release Date Revealed

Most of the buzz these days is about the Oscar-winner Bong Joon Ho with his recent release of Mickey 17 that has power-packed performance from Robert Pattinson, which of course is commendable. However, he is not the only prominent director from South Korea.

Revelations from ‘Train to Busan’ director, Yeon Sang-ho, is an upcoming South Korean Netflix Original thriller film. The director has built a strong partnership with Netflix over the past four years, giving some of the most-watched series like Hellbound and Parasyte: The Grey.

Plot details of Revelations

The film’s psychological dive into faith and obsession begins with a pastor’s sole mission. He believes that he has all the right to punish the person behind the missing girl. The disappearance of the young churchgoer becomes his vision, and as soon as an ex-con accidentally enters the church, the pastor calls him the culprit, attributing it to his visions.

A detective is given the same case but his dead sister’s shadow haunts him. The religion and reality-based facts come in conflict with each other and that is where the film’s narrative is built around tension.

Just like in a typical Korean film, everyone starts blaming each other without knowing the truth first, but again, this is the very soul of the movie. This is an intelligent way these directors keep the audience hooked till the end of the feature.

Everything gets messy and everyone gets violent. The intensity of the story picks pace with every second and that is what makes these thrilling feature films one of the best around the world.

Take a look at the final trailer of Revelations here:

Director’s vision for Revelations

Yeon Sang-ho and Kyu-Seok Choi co-wrote the script based on their 2022 comic book of the same name, per Bloody Disgusting. These two were last seen collaborating on the Netflix series Hellbound, which was a massive success as well.

The filming began in early April 2024 and ended in early August 2024. The director opened up about how the idea came up and why his collaboration with Alfonso Cuaron matters.

Revelations from Train to Busan director is about human psyche

On top of that, Movie Web got Sang-ho describing that his new film has “more realistic elements” which was not the case in his previous projects. He admitted that he had “ruled out fantasy elements” this time so that more of psychological elements were shown, grounded in reality. By psychological elements he meant illusions, delusions and traumas.

The difference in choices that both the pastor and the detective have make up the whole story. Their mission is the same while their individual character psychologies are distinct. The egocentric characteristics surround their personalities so that an in-depth overview of how each human thinks, sees, and believes what’s right could be interpreted on a larger scale.

Yeon Sang-ho also stated that one day Alfonso Cuaron approached himself through Sang-ho’s production company and asked him to work together on a Korean film, not an English one.

Both of them discussed and agreed on the notion of adapting a film from the comic. They were excited to make something that should resonate globally, even if it had Korean roots. They discussed the possibilities of making the movie a “universal story” in detail. For that, they shared “various versions of the edited footage to communicate about it”.

Executive producer’s vision for Revelations

The executive producer, Alfonso Cuaron, has a wise and notable message about this movie. He believes that the social themes and contexts are almost the same around the globe since human nature’s characteristics won’t change regardless of the geographic location.

According to First Showing, he said,

“It doesn’t matter which culture you come from, which religion you practice, which language you speak- human nature is one and the same, and it’s so great to connect each other through cinema.”

He explained that it is a deeper take on what people see as their ‘revelations’ and that is how the name was chosen as a title.

How was it working with Ryu Jun-yeol and Shin Hyun-bin?

The director went on further to cite how his working experience was with both the lead stars.

  • For Ryu Jun-yeol, he recounted that the actor asks a lot of questions. Sometimes, he used to get irritated but it was good that the actor asked him beforehand and eventually, he had to answer him, as per Chosun Biz.
  • Ryu Jun-yeol told that he was comfortable working with Shin Hyun-bin as he usually found it hard “to meet someone of the same age on set”. He was fateful enough to get this chance with Shin Hyun-bin and that is why, they soon became friends. The time went quickly on set due to the easy atmosphere all around.
  • Also, Shin Hyun-bin corroborated the same enjoyable atmosphere thing, despite dark and heavy scenes. She praised the director who created such an environment and allowed them “to act freely and comfortably”. She was equally complimented Alfonso Cuaron as listening to his discussions and watching videos opened doors to new learning for her which she was unaware of before.

Is Revelations available for streaming?

Revelations is opening worldwide on Netflix at the end of this week, March 21, 2025. The tone is similarly unsettling to Train to Busan, since, of course, the director wants it to be.

The intense emotional take of human natures with distinctiveness is Sang-ho’s departure from typical zombie genre and an intriguing watch as soon as it debuts on Netflix.
