Warning! Do not let her in as the Blumhouse horror movie is ultimately petrifying. After the great success of Carry On, Jaume Collet-Serra has decided to unite with the house of terrors, Blumhouse for a traditional horror film.
The Woman in the Yard will be hitting theatres next week, the same day as Death of a Unicorn, another exciting horror flick. But before that, get details for its trailer, plot, cast, and filmmaking here.
The Woman in the Yard plot details
As the second trailer has just dropped in, we can see that a scary woman in black is present in the front yard of a normal family house. She is fully covered in black and even has her face covered with a black veil.
She does not speak, she does not move and keeps staring at the house. The family can notice her from inside, looking from their window. They continuously attempt to ward her off but all in vain.
First, they think that the woman is lost or needs help but slowly, they come to know that she is no ordinary woman. She has intentions that are nothing sort of peaceful.
Until she slowly makes her way into the house. She is here for sinister reasons and keeps scaring the grieving family of three- mother Ramona (played by Danielle Deadwyler), son Taylor (played by Peyton Jackson,) and daughter Annie (played by Estella Kahiha). How and why? You have to watch the full movie for yourself. For now, have a look at the trailer:
The director, who previously gave us House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows, has collaborated with Danielle Deadwyler earlier on the action thriller Carry On, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Besides being on the cast, Danielle Deadwyler is the executive producer of the film.
This time, the trailer hasn’t given much again, just like its first trailer, but yes, that’s the catch!
Deeper meaning of the trailer
As Ramona asks the titular woman what she wants and why she is here after several failed attempts to shoo her off, Ramona says her husband will be back home soon.
The woman in the yard calmly responds that they both know he’s not coming back, which further intensifies the chilly atmosphere of the trailer. The woman stresses that she is only here as the mother of the family called her. Otherwise, she never appears without a purpose.
Ramona’s son threatens the woman with a gun and the scary creature gets excited that the children are tempting enough to be eaten. All of them instantly know they are in trouble as the woman keeps insisting to let her help them.
But we know, she is not here for any honest help- it is something deadly. The scene cutting to the husband’s death in the accident makes a connection with the woman in the yard summoned by Ramona. How?
The clues are there: it could be probably Ramona had called the woman for help when the accident happened. But why would she call something creepy? And what kind of help will she offer? Of course, we certainly know the shady woman is not here with good plans. Ramona might now be regretting her decision as her children’s lives are in danger.
What’s in the new featurette of The Woman in the Yard?
The cast teases a bit of the film in the new featurette. The debut scribe San Stefanak has given a script for an all-Black movie in which Ramona’s husband will be seen in several flashbacks. Russell Hornsby plays the husband.
In the featurette, the cast is giving hints of the story where Ramona is injured and has to protect her kids. She loves her life in the countryside, a peaceful family life, but is now disrupted by the arrival of the spine-chilling woman. The woman says “Today is the day” with blood on her hands.
Peyton goes on to reveal that they have to leave the house before nightfall. According to them, the film is a “pipeline to something terrifying” and Estella is constantly seen terror-stricken, screaming for her mother’s help.
Blumhouse founder wanted Collet-Serra for the film
Jason Blum, the founder of the firm, told Variety (via JoBlo) that he was looking for the right project to carry out with Collet-Serra for more than ten years. He said,
“The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler.”
Blumhouse knows what it is good at, and here it is again!
According to Dread Central, Blumhouse follows a low-budget model and has recently given us superb movies like The Exorcist: Believer, Fine Nights at Freddy’s, Halloween, and Mr Harringan’s Phone, etc. Several of its movies were ranked best in the years they were released, which gives the production house a strong rating for its remarkable work over the years.
Based on Variety’s reports, Blumhouse conducted a survey among 3,000 Americans in 2024 which revealed that 44 percent were die-hard fans of the horror genre. 45 percent thought the genre has improved commendably over the years and they do not have to wait till Halloween only to watch the best horror flicks.
