There are some movies that are epic horror stories that could only be made once in a lifetime. No other remake or sequel could justify the excellence of their existence in the first place.
And then, there are trailers that are perfectly crafted, setting the tone just right without even spoiling anything. Keeping the intrigue factor high by engraving their lasting effect on the viewers’ minds, so that they wait impatiently for the final release.
Such is the Together trailer- a film that was initially premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, which ran from January 23 to February 2.
Plot details of Together
Casting the real-life couple, Dave Franco (playing the role of Tim) and Alison Brie (playing the role of Millie), is an intelligent decision by the director. The story revolves around the same couple who move to the countryside, which doesn’t seem friendly to them.
An unwanted supernatural incident incites undesirable changes in their life that thoroughly and drastically change their relationship, their own existence, and the meaning of their physical life for them.

Did you catch these chilling details in the Together trailer?
Now that you might have played the trailer here, did you notice the eerie details in the film’s trailer?
Two dogs standing still:
In one of the opening scenes, two dogs are eerily frozen, staring vacantly at each other—doing absolutely nothing. The unnatural stillness gives off a deeply unsettling vibe.
The hair-in-mouth moment:
Tim is seen pulling a long strand of hair from his teeth, which raises disturbing questions—why is it there? Whose hair is it? It’s gross, haunting, and lingers in the mind.
The Dog Drawing in the Classroom:
Millie, while teaching, discovers a child’s drawing on a desk—two dogs seemingly devouring each other. Innocent or ominous? Either way, it’s incredibly creepy.
Unanswered questions from the trailer:
- What’s the purpose of the dark hole shown briefly?
- Why is Tim having a seizure and banging his head in the washroom?
- Who is levitating against the glass door?
- Are both characters suffering from something supernatural—or each other?
A haunting mix of horror and romance:
Amidst the unsettling imagery, there’s a strange tenderness: Tim says “I love you” to Millie, and she softly replies the same—creating a disturbing contrast with the horror visuals.
Final shocking shot – The eyelashes:
In the last scene, their eyelashes stretch toward each other, physically connecting in a surreal, body-horror-like moment.
Does this symbolize toxic closeness? Codependency taken to a monstrous level?
Overall Impression:
The trailer masterfully balances psychological unease, body horror, and romantic dread—leaving viewers with more questions than answers.
We expect all of our questions to be answered once the film lands in the theatres. Anticipation is building for this shuddery new release!
Director’s vision for the film
While talking to Sundance Film Festival journalist, Michael Shanks revealed that the inspiration behind Together’s story is his own. He has been with his partner for 15 years, and he was interested in exploring “the notion of fully sharing your life with someone”, as per Sundance Festival blogs.
He wanted to investigate the complexities of co-dependency and the long-term intricacies of a life built around someone. If any pitfalls are included, they were his primary focus in the movies.
He said,
“I hope anyone who’s been in a committed monogamous relationship can find something to relate to in the film.” [Source]
He opened up about his filmmaking style, which he revealed is run-and-gun guerrilla filmmaking. He is one of those people who would like to make props and clothing on his own.
He praised his entire team of creative artists, who would come up with something that was a sheer copy of a concept that he had in mind. A new set, novel prosthetics were all done by his talented artists and professionals.
Moreover, the biggest challenge that he faced while making the film was the budget and limited time. However, there was one scene that was “incredibly technically challenging”. We got to watch the movie once it is on the big screen to get the real feel and guess which scene it might be.
They only got 20 days to shoot, and he hoped that the film looks as big as they had imagined and created it. He unmasked that most of the post-production work was done by him. The visual effects and VFX shots in the film were all handled by him.
Dave Franco’s views on working in Together
This real-life couple has been married for eight years in actuality. Franco mentioned that they both have been selective in choosing the right project for themselves, as they have been approached by several people to work on together. He said,
“This one felt right; not only was the script incredible, but our characters have been together over a decade, our relationship felt like it could lend itself in a nice way.” [Source]
He was even candid about the fact that they thought this film might get them divorced or could become “more co-dependent than ever”. He confessed that it was the latter one, thankfully.
