Tom Hardy in Havoc is Ready For A Heart-Pounding Action Thriller- Trailer and Release Date

Tom Hardy is great in action movies, which he proved in last year’s Venom: The Last Dance. His next action feature seems to be promising, as the trailer was just released.

Fans have been waiting to watch Tom Hardy in Havoc, since they loved his performances in Legend and Venom. He is now in a globally recognized Indonesian action-thriller director’s film, known for The Raid– super excited, eh?

Plot details of Havoc

The synopsis of Havoc includes the story of a bruised detective, Walker, played by Tom Hardy, who has to fight his past and enter the underworld. He gets a mission to rescue a politician’s estranged son.

Soon, he realizes that it’s a dark web of corruption and conspiracy that has spread its arms over the entire city. Watch the official trailer from Netflix here:

The movie had started filming in 2021 but was pushed forward due to SAG-AFTRA strikes in the latter half of 2023 and reshoots. These were the factors outside the production team’s control and weren’t their fault at all. It was filmed in Wales and was delayed for four years before it got a final release date.

Tom Hardy has been doing some really cool action movies recently and is no stranger to the genre. Hence, pulling off this one smoothly would be a piece of cake for him. It is anticipated that it will be a good Netflix action movie this year, certainly showcasing Hardy’s hard-core action skills.

The director’s take on Havoc

Gareth Evans spilled the beans about his vision for the film Havoc. He told Radio Times that it is his “love letter to the heroic bloodshed genre”, which includes most of the films like those in Hong Kong in the 80s and 90s eras.

Most of his inspiration comes from John Woo and Ringo Lam as a major part of his career is based upon that. This time, it is more “hard-boiled, noir-rish cop thriller”. He further explained that this fits well with Tom Hardy’s role in the feature, who is a “sort of corrupt cop”.

The story begins after a drug deal goes wrong, and he is stuck in Chinatown where he has to find his way before the good cops find him; certainly, he is a bad cop here.

The film’s settings are two nights before Christmas, but he assured that it is nothing close to a Christmas movie- the total opposite of what could be expected from him.

Moreover, Empire Magazine cited that Evans promised the hype it had created after a delay. It is worth the wait, he promised and accredited the delay for better streamlining of the film. “It had a profound effect on the film”, he added. He wanted it to be exactly the way it is crafted- a close semblance to the Hong Kong cinema, inculcating the fast-paced action thriller that he grew up watching.

About Tom Hardy’s preparation for the role

Evans validated that he was in the “beast mode” with “intense muscular central performance” as was the demand of his role. Since he was the cop meant to rescue the politician’s son in the criminal underworld, he needed to be strong and mighty for the said role.

His mission in a broken city with propulsive navigation caused him to endure the pain, which would be actually seen in the movie, Evans elucidated. He had special brutal fight scenes in mind that he wanted to be similar to the “gunplay stuff” that Evans had loved forever.

It could be equivalent to Madmax Fury since every corner of the place is under attack, as seen in the trailer. This is going to be a tough ride as Tom Hardy is on a mayhem streak and is breaking everything that is in his way.

On the other hand, Tom Hardy’s Mobland is also on air and the audience are loving it. It would be fascinating to watch whether Hardy gives the same performance in his upcoming film, and dominates the screens as much as that in Mobland. It would be sad to see if it didn’t as Havoc is a long-awaited release finally coming out this year.

How was it working with Tom Hardy in Havoc? Jessie Mei Li opened up

Mei Li was excited about working with the director, Evans, and Tom Hardy. She was fascinated with the fact that Hardy is an unpredictable actor and kept adding new things each day that kept the enthusiasm alive on the set.

She said,

“Oh yeah, some of Tom’s ad-libs were… I don’t think I can repeat them! But yeah, it was really fun.” [Source]
