Annihilation (2018)

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Another sci-fi feature from Scott Derrickson; why wouldn’t it be identical to The Gorge? The director is known for horror genre who loves to bring a specific cinematic style to his flicks; beautiful scenery with disturbing imagery.
Although the ratings don’t speak much of this film, the film comes out as a great attempt at the sci-fi genre. Saving the planet is literally the theme of the film where Keanu Reeves is seen indulging in a romantic plot as well.
Again, a genre-bending mastery by Scott, equivalent to The Gorge.

The Mist (2007)
While The Gorge saves some of the terrifying monster scenes for the end, The Mist keeps the audience at the edge of their seats throughout the movie. Thanks to its Lovecraftian creatures cloaked in the mist, a film with similar creatures as The Gorge.
A thick fog engulfs the town after a powerful storm damages the town of Maine, trapping the residents in a grocery store. The film retains a constant threat of dread, compelling the viewers to think what would be behind the mist.
The Mist is also about a military experiment gone wrong, creating an inter-dimensional rift, quite akin to The Gorge. The film doesn’t have a happy ending though- be prepared for heartbreak, we warn you.

“Criminally overlooked in the States, this is one of the best horror movies of the last few years.”

Resident Evil (2002)
Based on the video game series of the same name, Resident Evil is about a group of commandos who are assigned the task of shutting down a genetic laboratory where a virus breaks out, turning the employees and animals into deadly zombies.
Milla Jovovich became an emblematic character, Alice, for the Resident Evil films as she gets caught in the corporate deception inculcating infected zombies, mutant creatures, and what not.
A similar fascination with mysterious facilities is witnessed in The Gorge continuing with the layers of conspiracy. However, Resident Evil comes with claustrophobic battlegrounds within the facility that hide new threats at every step.
