Longlegs
Longlegs was released in 2024, it was one of the most disturbingly horror movies of the year. Directed by Osgood Perkins, the story revolves around a young FBI agent Lee Harker (played by Maika Monroe) who has to search for a terrifying serial killer “The Longlegs Killer” (played by Nicolas Cage).
As soon as she starts her quest, she comes across cult-type eerie truths that are connected to her in creepy ways. Not only the killer, which was masterfully portrayed by Nicolas Cage, but the unbelievably upsetting atmosphere the movie demonstrated was the director’s incredible achievement.
The slow-building tension kept the audience hooked, developing more dread in the next scene than the previous one. And the rest of the magic is created by lighting and sound- great work by the editing team!
Excellently reviewed by Empire Magazine, as it said, “Lee and Longlegs’ relationship and convergence towards each other is fascinatingly spelled out.”

The Accountant
The Accountant was released in 2016, and its main purpose was to bring the condition of autism to mainstream cinema. The ultimate goal was to show the audience that autistic people can be geniuses, and that is how Ben Affleck came to the lead.
An autistic maths wizard, Christian Wolff (played by Ben Affleck), has a lucrative freelance job- as an accountant for perilous criminal organizations. However, when the US Treasury closes in, he finds a legitimate client, which unveils a world of corruption and murder upon him.
Although Affleck’s role wasn’t deemed convincing enough by several critics since there were loopholes left in the autistic characteristics of the protagonist, the movie did not fail to deliver the right message that autistic people should not be treated as loners and that their different nature is their strength.

The Revenant
The Revenant, which was released in 2016, is a pure survival movie. Sitting in the comfort of our beds or soft cinema seats and watching a brutal survival film that is nothing but man versus nature, this could have only been possible by Alejandro González Iñárritu, director of the Oscar-winning Birdman (2014).
The storyline is about a frontiersman, Hugh Glass (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), who goes with his tribe on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s. After a bear attack, he is left by his own people to die and decides to take revenge.
The revenge takes its full power when John S. Fitzgerald (played by Tom Hardy), the betrayer, kills Glass’s son and leaves Glass to the woods. After mesmerizing us with the bear-fighting sequence, which just takes a few minutes but is filmed in a primal theatrical way, nature makes multiple attempts to kill Glass.
One of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes said,
“DiCaprio is different than we’ve seen him and it may very well be his most convincing, if not his most appealing, performance to date.”

Lee
Lee, released in 2024, is a biographical drama of model-turned-war photographer Lee Miller, portrayed by Kate Winslet. During World War II, she had to face sexism while capturing the horrors of war on the European frontlines.
She stayed courageous and indulged deeply in her work as she captured the most amazing pictures through her lens. It was only possible with Winslet’s powerful performance that gave new life to Lee’s experiences.
Kate Winslet’s performance was the talk of the town as she always comes out as the ‘best’. No matter how best the others gave, she always managed to outshine them. She is a powerhouse of acting who emerges as brave, tough, and outraged with the fire of injustice in the film.

Wall-E
We all love Wall-E; there is no denying that. This Pixar-animated film was released in 2008 and still has our hearts. Earth is now covered with mess only.
Later, he is accompanied by another sleek probe named Eve who has a mission- reintroducing life on Earth. Wall-E gets close to this probe and takes care of her, sparking a new journey.
The movie gives a strong message about environmentalism while keeping it emotionally engaging for the viewers. The audience couldn’t get enough of the visual wonderment engulfed with a decent science-fiction story that possessed a childlike credulity without any language barrier.
