It is usually hard to decide what to watch when there are so many options in the world of streaming, but you don’t know which content is worth watching. Movie Insiderz has brought you a list of what to watch on Netflix Hulu and Prime for the month of August 2025.
All of the movies are fresh releases of 2025 that are now available on these streaming platforms, so grab a bag of popcorn and enjoy your weekend.
What to watch on Netflix in August
Night Always Comes (August 15)
Directed by Benjamin Caron and based on the best-selling novel of the same name authored by Willy Vlautin, Night Always Comes has freshly debuted on Netflix. The plot centers on Lynette (played by Vanessa Kirby), who risks everything to save her childhood home in Portland and devotes herself to caring for her disabled older brother.
A time comes when she has to confront her past so that a final break-free moment gives her peace. The film is mainly a portrait of a woman facing hardships in order to merely survive. The financial instability and misogyny in the US are some of the strongest themes demonstrated, while the story proceeds to show Kirby’s intense performance.
The Thursday Murder Club (August 28)
Directed by Chris Columbus and starring a top-notch cast, such as Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, and Pierce Brosnan, The Thursday Murder Club is a mystery comedy movie based on a novel of the same name.
Four retirees like spending their free time solving murder mysteries. They are unaware that an unexplained case arrives at their door, and this time, they cannot take it just for fun.
The film is based on the first part of the Thursday Murder Club book series, which could mean that if the first installment is a success, there could be further series of films too. The fifth book is lined up for September publishing.
What to watch on Hulu in August
It Feeds (August 15)
Directed by Chad Archibald, It Feeds focuses on a young girl who claims that a dark entity is feeding on her. Her father tries to protect her in absurd ways, even if it means kidnapping or forcing others to become victims of the entity.
The girl takes the help of a therapist who, in the process of helping her, has to face her own personal issues. The film highlights suffering and pain, and how they consume a human body and mind.
The Bayou (August 21)
Directed by Taneli Mustonen and Brad Watson, The Bayou shows a vacation turning into a disaster when a plane crashes in the lonely Louisiana Everglades, which Kyle (played by Athena Startes) and her friends had boarded.
They soon realize there is something dangerous lurking in the water, and then the story of survival begins.
The film hasn’t received high critics’ ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but some praise its visual effects with a guarantee of enjoyment if you are a “croc and gator” fan.
What to watch on Prime in August

Wolf Man (August 22)
From the visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell and the house of horrors, Blumhouse, came Wolf Man on January 17. The plot revolves around Blake (played by Christopher Abbott), who moves to his newly inherited childhood home in rural Oregon with his wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner), and daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth).
A cloud of sudden fear engulfs the family when Blake is attacked by an unseen animal and starts behaving strangely due to his gradual transformation into something monstrous.
The film gained a mediocre rating on Rotten Tomatoes, saying that the feature had a fresh psychological take on man’s transformation into a wolf, but it tries hard to please, though. A review on The Guardian said,
“Leigh Whannell’s unfocused follow-up to The Invisible Man is a howling disappointment, misjudged and dull.” [Source]
Still, the movie will be fun to watch for those who love body horror.
Last Breath (August 29)
Last Breath was first released on February 28, 2025, and is based on a true story. Initially, it premiered as a 2019 documentary of the same name, directed by Richard da Costa and Alex Parkinson.
Alex Parkinson took the reins again as a director for a feature-length PG-13 true-life adventure thriller that recounts the efforts of a rescue team with three members to save a diver trapped hundreds of feet below the water’s surface.
What makes it more thrilling is the real-time running of “time without oxygen” and how much time has gone by while being underwater to retrieve the missing diver.
